Start as you mean to go on with the Start Rite Tennis Grip Trainer

The Start Rite Tennis Grip Trainer may not be the most high tech of gadgets - but when it comes to developing your tennis game it is right up there from an effectiveness point of view! Let me explain why…

Tennis players starting out often use the same grip for all their shots. It tends to be the forehand grip or to be a tad on the technical side the Eastern Forehand Grip. As the name suggests this is perfect for the Forehand but it isn’t the ideal one for the serve or the volley. So what grip should you be using for the serve and the volley?

The answer is the Continental Grip which is also known as the Chopper Grip.

When people try it for the first time it can field a little on the weird side and players often slide their hand back to what they find more comfortable - the forehand grip.

The Start Rite Tennis Grip Trainer helps them understand how to use the continental grip and helps them stick with it until it becomes second nature.

You attach the trainer to the racket handle using a velcro strap and then use the peg to put your grip around. It enables players to understand what the grip is and gives them the confidence they need to know the grip is in the right place.

It’s an ingenious bit of kit and comes highly recommended.

I use it most to teach the continental / chopper grip but it can also be used for any other grips such as the Eastern, Semi-Western or Western. But more on those another time. For now, please do take a look at the video below for more on the Start Rite Tennis Grip Trainer.
